About Us
yesterday.
Saint Peter's was founded in 1875 and has faced many challenges in its time. Right from the start, the church ran out of money to complete the building work so the Bishop of Durham had to pay for the rest. Skipping forward to 2009, the church was left without a vicar, a state in which it still stands.
In 2010, the church elected the UK's youngest churchwarden, at 18 years. Since then, the committee has led a revival in faith and modern thinking within the church, and the first sparks of community work launched in 2010, something which is continuing to this day.

today.
we're starting afresh. renewed.
With the ongoing support of the Church of England and the Durham Diocese, and the careful and meticulous planning of the PCC, the church still stands.
